On Board One° 15 Marina Club Singapore
Published 01 February 2008
Melanie Lee goes on a breezy tour of ONE°15 Marina Club and is impressively swayed by the exclusive indulgences Singapore’s latest luxury club offers to its members.
In the magical, millionaire precinct of Sentosa Cove, there lies a sleek new marina club set against sparkling waters and shiny yachts called ONE°15. Located one degree and 15 minutes north of the equator, this S$70 million nautical haven offers an unmatched respite of members-only privacy, uninterrupted sea views and a wide range of boating and plush lifestyle facilities.
ONE°15 Marina Club officially launched this September with much pomp and ceremony with a three-day Festival La Mer that brought this region’s rich and famous buzzing around on its sophisticated grounds. “Sail to Asia, berth at ONE°15 Marina Club, take your pick of world-class entertainment and wine and dine options,” said Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry of this new lifestyle option which will undoubtedly entice those looking for more ways to appreciate the finer things in life.
The waterfront lifestyle is indeed appealing as I spend a quiet evening in this prestigious club. Children splash around in delight in the designer infinity pool that provides clear views of the sea beyond, even underwater, while grown-ups wind down at the partially submerged pool café sipping tropical cocktails. Above me, I see fitness enthusiasts pounding away on the treadmills at the glass-windowed gym, yet looking absolutely serene while facing the mesmerizing evening sunset by the sea. In the marine-themed Iconic tower, subtly shaped as a ship bow, members chill at the hip Bar Nebula on the ground floor, sip Verve Clicquot champagne at the bar above or have a private and cozy dining party at the Nova lounge right on the top. Alternatively, there is also a rather psychedelic circular dining room that doubles up as a 360 degree glass wine cellar at the club’s TH1RT3EN° restaurant.
The highlight of this club, however, is its commitment to members who are in love with the sea. Boating facilities are available for boat owners to berth and upkeep their prized possessions, while yachts and mega-yachts are available for charter for those members wanting to cruise around the southern islands of Singapore. There is also a Sea Sports Centre offering jet skiing, wakeboarding and kayaking services, and there are even fully-equipped houseboats docked and leased out to members who have always wondered what it is like to live on the sea for a few days.
There are grand plans for ONE°15 Marina Club to host international yacht races in the near future, similar to places like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez that are strongly associated with such events. Mr. Arthur Tay, Chairman of ONE°15 Marina Club is optimistic of Singapore’s development as a marina hub. “Super yachts are beginning to make Singapore a key stop on their world travels. Waterfront homes – many with their own docks – are in hot demand, here on Sentosa Cove…(there is) a wave of excitement for nautical pursuits. Watch out Singapore, watch out Asia! Just wait and see how the marina lifestyle evolves in the months and years ahead,” he says.
Given the exclusivity of this club, membership has been capped at 4000. As of early October, there are already close to 3,000 members, almost half of whom are foreigners. I sigh a little wistfully as I leave the premises of this elegant classy club and spend the night dreaming of pretty white boats, aquamarine lounge chairs and salty sea breezes.
